NBTC unveils new logo ahead of 14th season

MANILA - Entering its 14th season, the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) unveiled a brand new logo, one that symbolizes its commitment to grassroots development while showing its readiness to embrace a new era.

NBTC program director Eric Altamirano said the Philippine Under-19 Basketball Championship will continue to build skills, shape character, and develop leaders while also wearing a new coat as it moves forward into the future.

"This is the NBTC's way of keeping up with the times and at the same time staying true to its core values," Altamirano said during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) forum on Tuesday.

In its 14th season, there will be 96 cities competing in the 72 Local City Qualifying (LCQ) tournaments for four spots in the regional championships; Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, Bisayas and Mindanao.

From there, four spots will be available for the national finals to be held next March.

"We want to empower local players and show them a path to the best positions," Altamirano said about the revamped format of next year's tournament.

Aside from the UAAP and NCAA champions and runners-up, there are 10 spots allocated for global teams and two wild cards that will make up the 32 teams in the Smart-NBTC National Finals presented by SM Supermalls, which will eventually be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The National Finals will be streamed globally via the Smart Livestream app and the NBTC and Smart Sports Facebook pages. Meanwhile, the regional championships will also be streamed live on the NBTC's Facebook page.

The #LakingNBTC campaign will also launch soon and will spotlight NBTC alumni who have achieved great success after high school.

Those who have gone through the program include Houston Rockets' Jalen Green, Asian Games gold medalists Scott Thompson, Kevin Alas and Alvin Tolentino; international imports Kiefer Ravenna, Teddy Ravenna and Carl Tamayo; and current collegiate stars such as JD Kaguragan, CJ Cansino and Will Goetzim.
